Optical shock-enhanced self-photon acceleration

Photon accelerators can spectrally broaden laser pulses with high efficiency in moving electron density gradients. When driven by a conventional pulse, the group velocity walk-off experienced accelerated photons and deterioration of gradient from diffraction refraction limit extent spectral broadening. Here we show that pulse shaped space-time transverse intensity profile overcomes these limitations creating guiding at tunable velocity. Self-photon acceleration this leads to dramatic broadening steepening, forming an optical shock further enhances rate In new regime, multi-octave spectra extending $400 nm - 60 nm$ wavelengths, which support near-transform limited $< 400 as$ pulses, are generated over $<100 \mu$m interaction length.
